Thilo Kunkel, a professor in Temple's School of Tourism and Hospitality Management and an expert on NIL, talked to OwlScoop.com on this week's podcast about his name, image and likeness research and how he expects it to affect Temple and the world of college sports.
Kunkel, who published a paper back in March titled "There Is No Nil in NIL: Examining the Social Media Value of Student-Athletes’ Names, Images, and Likeness," will be teaching an online class at Temple this fall called Athlete Branding: Name, Image and Likeness. He answered several reader and listener mailbag questions on the podcast and provided some clarity and context on what coaches like Aaron McKie, Rod Carey and Tonya Cardoza can and cannot do on the recruiting trail when it comes to NLI.

Our full interview with former Temple star and Buffalo Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins highlights a packed episode full of football and basketball content this week.
Dawkins, who came back to North Philadelphia last Saturday for his Dion's Dreamers food pantry event, worked with more than 50 members of the Temple football team to distribute food and produce to families in the community and the nearby Berean Presbyterian Church.
Dawkins, a key member of a Bills team that went 13-3 last season and advanced to the AFC Championship game, talked about his time at Temple, his NFL ascension and what the Owls will have to do to bounce back in 2021.
We also have a clip from our 1-on-1 interview with Temple safety Amir Tyler, who worked alongside Dawkins at his event last weekend. Tyler offers fans a glimpse of what he's seen from new Owls quarterback D'wan Mathis.

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker and former Temple star Shaun Bradley talked to OwlScoop.com's John DiCarlo on this week's podcast about his rookie season in the NFL, his thoughts on new Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, and why he thinks the linebackers will be "flying the f--- around" in defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon's scheme.
And Bradley believes Temple is poised to bounce back after a 1-6 2020 season that was marred by injuries and COVID-related issues. He had the chance to watch a few of the Owls' spring practices and thinks Georgia transfer and new starting quarterback D'wan Mathis is going to be "a stud." He also has high hopes for running back Iverson Clement, a fellow Rancocas Valley High School graduate who came to Temple from Florida via the transfer portal.
