Season 7, Episode 6 - Can the Owls upset Boston College after beating Akron?

After falling behind by two touchdowns at Akron, Temple woke up and grabbed its first win of the season last week against the Zips.

Now the Owls will have a much tougher test in their home opener against Boston College. 

Can the Owls pull off the upset with BC starting quarterback Phil Jurkovec out of the lineup and potentially lost for the season with a hand injury? Was routing a team like Akron exactly what Temple needed to wake up? John DiCarlo and Sam Cohn answered those questions, as well as several more from the mailbag, and even talked some basketball, too.

Season 7, Episode 3 - Gabe Infante talks about Temple’s recruiting philosophy

This week's OwlScoop.com podcast includes part of our exclusive interview with Temple running backs coach Gabe Infante. The former four-time state champion head coach at St. Joseph's Prep enters his third season on head coach Rod Carey's staff and his first as the Owls' recruiting coordinator. 

In the audio you'll hear in this week's podcast, Infante talked about Temple's recruiting philosophy, what he envisions as their recruiting footprint and how he's worked with Carey and the staff to establish the direction of the program when it comes to recruiting.

Season 7, Episode 1 - Preseason camp notes, audio from Jadan Blue and new Temple verbal Sam Martin

John DiCarlo, Kyle Gauss and Dante Collinelli kick off The Scoop's seventh season with coverage of Temple's first week of preseason camp, including audio from wide receiver Jadan Blue and discussion of what fans can expect from new quarterback D'wan Mathis and how things could play out with position battles at linebacker.

The Scoop: Season 6, Episode 39 with NIL expert Thilo Kunkel

Thilo Kunkel, a professor in Temple's School of Tourism and Hospitality Management and an expert on NIL, talked to OwlScoop.com on this week's podcast about his name, image and likeness research and how he expects it to affect Temple and the world of college sports.

Kunkel, who published a paper back in March titled "There Is No Nil in NIL: Examining the Social Media Value of Student-Athletes’ Names, Images, and Likeness," will be teaching an online class at Temple this fall called Athlete Branding: Name, Image and Likeness. He answered several reader and listener mailbag questions on the podcast and  provided some clarity and context on what coaches like Aaron McKie, Rod Carey and Tonya Cardoza can and cannot do on the recruiting trail when it comes to NLI. 

The Scoop with Dion Dawkins - Season 6, Episode 38

Our full interview with former Temple star and Buffalo Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins highlights a packed episode full of football and basketball content this week. 

Dawkins, who came back to North Philadelphia last Saturday for his Dion's Dreamers food pantry event, worked with more than 50 members of the Temple football team to distribute food and produce to families in the community and the nearby Berean Presbyterian Church. 

Dawkins, a key member of a Bills team that went 13-3 last season and advanced to the AFC Championship game, talked about his time at Temple, his NFL ascension and what the Owls will have to do to bounce back in 2021. 

We also have a clip from our 1-on-1 interview with Temple safety Amir Tyler, who worked alongside Dawkins at his event last weekend. Tyler offers fans a glimpse of what he's seen from new Owls quarterback D'wan Mathis. 

Plus, Sam Cohn provides a comprehensive scouting report of Temple basketball recruiting targets like Christian Fermin, Dan Skillings and Rahmir Barno from his time covering Philly Live I.

 

The Scoop: Season 6, Episode 37 with Shaun Bradley

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker and former Temple star Shaun Bradley talked to OwlScoop.com's John DiCarlo on this week's podcast about his rookie season in the NFL, his thoughts on new Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, and why he thinks the linebackers will be "flying the f--- around" in defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon's scheme. 

And Bradley believes Temple is poised to bounce back after a 1-6 2020 season that was marred by injuries and COVID-related issues. He had the chance to watch a few of the Owls' spring practices and thinks Georgia transfer and new starting quarterback D'wan Mathis is going to be "a stud." He also has high hopes for running back Iverson Clement, a fellow Rancocas Valley High School graduate who came to Temple from Florida via the transfer portal.
