After a lopsided, 57-point loss at UCF last Thursday on national television, Temple can - and perhaps should - get its first American Athletic Conference win Friday night at Lincoln Financial Field when the Owls host Tulsa. John DiCarlo, Kyle Gauss, Javon Edmonds and Cayden Steele talked about how Temple can beat a 2-4 Golden Hurricane team, and we have audio from first-year Temple head coach Stan Drayton talking about the team's usage of backup quarterback Quincy Patterson and the play of right tackle Victor Stoffel and how he can open up some possibilities for a struggling offensive line. 

And we have some basketball talk for listeners as well in this week's mailbag. 

This week's OwlScoop.com podcast will get you ready for Temple's Thursday night road game at UCF, which is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff on ESPN. We have audio from Adam Klein and Isaac Moore that you'll only hear here, as the two veteran offensive lineman talked about how the Owls can get their rushing attack going on the road to complement freshman quarterback E.J. Warner and receivers Jose Barbon and Adonicas Sanders. 

And as Temple's Nov. 7 season-opener approaches, we'll take another look at the Owls' roster and what came out of Wednesday's American Athletic Conference media day, and we have details on first-year head coach Diane Richardson's Temple women's team as well. 

This week's basketball-centric episode of The Scoop includes audio from Temple guards Damian Dunn and Jahlil White, who spoke with reporters Tuesday at the team's practice facility.

Dunn thinks it's a NCAA Tournament or bust year for Temple and talked about why he's very impressed with UCF transfer Jamille Reynolds, and White provided a scouting report on his friend, former Wildwood Catholic High School teammate and West Virginia transfer Taj Thweatt. 

And John DiCarlo, Kyle Gauss, Javon Edmonds and Cayden Steele looked back at what went wrong in Temple's 24-3 loss at Memphis that has first-year head coach Stan Drayton's football team at 2-3 entering the bye week. 

Dante Collinelli, a former OwlScoop.com reporter who is now a content editor at the 33rd Team, joined The Scoop this week to offer his scouting evaluations of Temple quarterback E.J. Warner and outside linebacker Layton Jordan as the 2-2 Owls prepare to play at Memphis in Saturday's American Athletic Conference opener. 

And in addition to answering mailbag questions, Javon Edmonds will update listeners on class of 2024 Neumann-Goretti point guard Khaafiq Myers' recruitment and his official visit to Temple. 

In a 16-14 loss to Rutgers last Saturday, Temple continued to see more progress from true freshman quarterback E.J. Warner and redshirt junior outside linebacker Layton Jordan, and the Owls will look to bounce back this Saturday at home against UMass.

John DiCarlo, Javon Edmonds, Cayden Steele and Sam Cohn recapped Temple's 30-0 season-opening loss at Duke and previewed the Owls' home opener against Lafayette. They answered mailbag questions and offered a detailed breakdown of what went wrong for Temple down in Durham against the Blue Devils. 

And to get a closer look at Lafayette, Leopards wide receivers coach Ryan Roeder joined the podcast this week to give listeners some insight into their week one win over Sacred Heart and the challenges he expects his offense to face against Temple's defense.

Roeder, a former Temple graduate assistant who later worked in the NFL for the New York Giants, also talked about his time working under former Owls head coach Al Golden from 2006 to 2008 and that staff's efforts to rebuild the program.

First-year Temple football head coach Stan Drayton announced Thursday that D'Wan Mathis would be his starting quarterback in the Owls' season opener next week at Duke and that transfer Quincy Patterson would back him up. You'll hear audio from Thursday's media availability, including Drayton's explanation of what Mathis did to earn the starting job and his opinion on the most important position battles, including the running backs, safeties, pass rushers and wide receivers. 

And John DiCarlo and Javon Edmonds answered questions from a full mailbag this week as well. 

Former Temple star Mike Vreeswyk, one of the top players on Hall of Fame coach John Chaney's 1987-88 team that was ranked No. 1 in the country and advanced to the Elite Eight, talked to OwlScoop.com Wednesday, and you can hear part of that interview on this week's podcast. 

Vreeswyk, now an assistant coach at The George School, scored 1,650 points in his Temple career, is a member of the Big 5 Hall of Fame, the Temple Sports Hall of Fame, and Temple's basketball Ring of Honor. In the portion of the interview you'll hear on The Scoop, Vreeswyk, among other things, weighed in on our OwlScoop.com Temple Hoops All-Time Fantasy Draft, shared memories of Chaney, past teammates like Ernest Pollard, Mark Macon and Howie Evans, and talked about what made the late Jim Maloney such an outstanding assistant coach. 

And with Temple's football season opener just 16 days away, OwlScoop.com Editor John DiCarlo and OwlScoop.com reporter Javon Edmonds talked more about the position battles taking shape in preseason camp, as well as the single-digit selections that were announced Monday night.
