Season10, Episode 4 - "The President is back!"
Friday Aug 23, 2024
Friday Aug 23, 2024
As he walked in to greet a room of reporters last week, Temple wide receiver John Adams smiled and started with a little bit of humor.
"The president is back," he said, referencing of course that he shares a name with that of the second president of the United States.
Adams has every reason to be in a good mood these days. After working his way into Temple's wide receiver rotation as a walk-on last season and catching 15 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns, his season came to an early end with a broken leg in a road game at UAB.
Adams thought his chance of eventually earning a scholarship was over at that point, but he rehabbed, worked his way back and found out Monday night that he has indeed earned a scholarship, getting the news from his head coach Stan Drayton and from his mother, Louise Adams, on video.
Adams spoke with us Thursday to talk about his recovery and what earning a scholarship means to him, and we have the latest preseason camp updates for you with the season opener at Oklahoma just a week away.

Dybantsa.

Season 9, Episode 46: Henry Burris recaps a Hall of Fame career
Thursday Jul 18, 2024
Thursday Jul 18, 2024
Temple and CFL Hall of Famer Henry Burris joined us on The Scoop this week to share memories from his career on North Broad Street as a record-setting quarterback out of Spiro, Oklahoma.
Burris, who recently returned to his alma mater back in May to serve as the Klein College of Media and Communication’s commencement speaker at the Liacouras Center, also established himself as a television personality in Canada on CTV Morning Live and TSN and said he used his Temple education to feel comfortable being on camera as a host and analyst.
On the field, Burris passed for 7,495 yards and 49 touchdowns against some great competition in the Big East from 1993 to 1996 and earned his way into the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent and saw stints with the Green Bay Packers, where he backed up Brett Favre and Doug Pederson. The relationship he forged with Pederson allowed him to land a spot on his Jacksonville Jaguars staff in 2022 as an offensive quality control coach. This season, he'll be the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Florida A&M.
In the CFL, Burris became a three-time Grey Cup champion, a two-time Grey Cup MVP and a two-time recipient of the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player award -- and it all started with a tryout that had Burris throwing to guys off the street wearing slacks and Stacy Adams dress shoes.
Burris shared that story and many more on this week’s podcast, which also includes some football and basketball recruiting updates and information on how you can vote in the OwlScoop Summertime Madness food bracket championship between Richie’s and Maxi’s.

Temple guard Quante Berry will be at the Lupus Links Golf Challenge Wednesday at Lafayette Hill’s Green Valley Country Club to help raise awareness and money for lupus research. It’s a cause that’s quite important to the redshirt-sophomore point guard, as his sister and mother have both been diagnosed with the autoimmune disease.
Participants in Wednesday’s outing can meet Berry and face off against him in a Beat the Pro game of arcade pop-a-shot.
As a guest on this week’s episode of The Scoop, Berry talked about his work with the Lupus Foundation of America, his freshman season at Temple, and why he thinks the Owls are poised to play some meaningful basketball next March.
If you're interested in playing at the July 10 Lupus Links Golf Challenge, you can register here.

Temple’s Board of Trustees unanimously appointed John Fry as the university’s 15th president Wednesday morning, and we talked on this week’s episode of The Scoop about how Drexel’s former president might impact the Owls’ athletic programs.
Fry, who has served as Drexel’s president for the last 14 years and helped it raise more than $800 million over a five-year span from 2017 to 2022, spoke with The Temple News Wednesday about a number of topics, including athletics. Temple’s student newspaper shared some of that audio with OwlScoop that you’ll hear on the Scoop, including Fry’s initial thoughts on Temple’s lease agreement with the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field and what he would like to see change in order for the Owls to be successful.
And in the mailbag, OwlScoop editors John DiCarlo and Kyle Gauss answered questions about how Adam Fisher and his staff might use their last available scholarship for the 2024 class and if the Owls have a good enough roster to potentially earn an at-large NCAA Tournament bid.
